Wiki Style Guide

This is a simple guide to help keep our articles and styles consistent. For how to format pages, please refer to the Syntax Guide.

General

  • Articles must pertain directly to the Crimson Flag Comic. Articles related to other works by Virmir including Virmir-World Comics are not allowed.
  • Articles must pertain to established, canon information in the comic. Information revealed by Virmir in CF chat may also be included if it can be referenced to the chat logs. Speculative articles are not allowed.

Article titles

  • Article titles should be in the singular form to maintain consistency, except where plural is appropriate.
  • Article titles should be written in Title Case
  • Article titles should ideally match the url. e.g. for an article titled “Page Name”, the url should be
    wiki.crimsonflagcomic.com/doku.php?id=Page_Name.
  • I will look into making redirects i.e. RedsRed Reyn

Writing

  • As this wiki's purpose is to document facts, you should always avoid speculative and unsourced information. Generally speaking, information does not require a reference if they can directly be seen directly in the comic or are otherwise obvious. Other information however, such as quotes from Virmir or Tod and information that is not widely known, must be sourced with a proper reference. Do not add content to an article if you cannot find a proper source.
  • Articles in the main namespace should always be written in the third-person perspective and without terms referential to the reader. Try not to use abbreviations of words either.
  • To emphasize points, italics should be used, not bold or ALL CAPS.
  • Wiki pages must be grammatically correct and written in standard American English.
  • Standard capitalization and punctuation rules apply.
  • Any instance of “the Crimson Flag Comic” should be in italics. Any instance of the name of another media should also be in italics. For instance: “Virmir-World Comic”.
  • We prefer “the Crimson Flag Comic” to “Crimson Flag” when referring to the comic.

Layout

  • We will have basic layout templates for major kinds of pages like “character” “place” etc.
  • Article main sections should start with level 2 headers (five equal signs ----- Header -----) and increase by one (one less equal sign on each side) for subsections. Level one headers are reserved for the page title (six equal signs). Follow sentence style capitalization, not title style, so only the first letter of the heading and proper nouns are capitalized.
  • There should be one blank line between sections as well as one space between the equal signs and the section name for ease of editing. If any “main article” links or thumb images are used, place them immediately under the section header, and then a space after those before the section content.

Images

  • Only use images directly from the comic or from other works by Virmir or Tod directly pertaining to comic topics.
  • All images should be relevant to the article, and only one image should be presented for each attribute of an article topic.
  • Image captions should not have periods at the end unless the phrase is a full sentence.
  • If available, more recent images of characters or locations are preferred for the article's primary image, and earlier images may be included later in the article

Linking

  • No more than 10 percent of the words in an article are contained in links.
  • Unless it affects the sentence's wording and readability in a negative way, two links should not be next to each other in the text so that it looks like one link.
  • Links for any single term should not be excessively repeated in the same article. Generally one link per topic per section is enough.

Date formatting

For instances where we include dates, use the format MM/DD/YYYY. For instances times are included (possibly in referencing the CF Chat logs), use Central time.
